Bomb scare in JB poses no danger

Malaysian police cordoned off parts of a road leading to Jalan Tebrau in Johor Baru yesterday afternoon after a suspicious package was found at a nearby petrol kiosk.

Police and personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department were called in and traffic was diverted from the city centre after the package, which was initially believed to be a bomb, was found at 1pm.

The petrol kiosk is next to an international bank and opposite the state police contingent headquarters, reported New Straits Times. A check by a police bomb squad revealed that the bag only contained pieces of old clothing.

Traffic flow, which had become congested because of the diversion, returned to normal after more than an hour. Johor Baru (South) police chief Sulaiman Salleh said the situation was under control as there was no danger.
