Boy killed by falling goalpost

BATU PAHAT, Malaysia - An 8-year-old boy was killed when he was crushed by a falling goalpost at a playground in Taman Sri Wangsa on Monday.

Ahmad Ilham Fikri Ahmad Zaki, a Year Two pupil at SK Bukit Soga, died from injuries to the head.

Ilham's brother Ahmad Iqbal Fitri, 10, said he, his brother and several friends were running around at the playground when the goalpost fell and crushed his brother.

"It all happened so fast. When I got to where he was, I saw that he was covered in blood. A man there told me my brother was dead.

"I went to get my father, Ahmad Zaki Mohd Abu Khairi, who was riding a motorcycle with my younger brother nearby, then went home to tell my mother," he said yesterday.

Zaki said when he got to the scene, the children there had moved the goalpost off his son.

"I called an ambulance but a friend lent me a car to take Ilham to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital. However, when we got to the emergency ward, the doctor told us that Ilham was dead."

Ilham was buried at the Parit Maimun Muslim cemetery in Parit Sulong on Tuesday.
