A MAN had to buy 60 packets of RM1(S$0.33) nasi lemak to serve his guests on his wedding day after the caterer he hired went missing, Kwong Wah Yit Poh reported.

The 30-year-old man, known only as Huang, said he had requested the caterer, whom he knew through a phone chat app, to provide food for his 60 guests on his wedding day in Butterworth on Jan 9.

Huang said the woman charged him RM1,500 and requested him to pay a 50 per cent deposit. After negotiating with the woman, Huang paid RM450, it reported.

However, three days before his wedding, he failed to contact the woman. So, he was forced to buy the nasi lemak from a hawker centre to serve his guests.

The daily reported that there were at least seven other victims who had been cheated by the caterer. Some had lodged police reports.
