Businessman shot at and slashed near Kuantan hotel

SINGAPORE - In yet another gun-related incident in Malaysia, a 42-year-old businessman was seriously injured when he was shot at and slashed in front of a hotel in Kuantan on Wednesday.

Pahang deputy police chief Deputy Commissioner Jamaluddin Abd Majid said Mr Lee Siew Meng, who was from Kuala Terengganu, was checking in at a hotel when he was approached by two men, The Star reported.

He said: "The two men asked the victim where he was going and when Mr Lee answered that he was checking in, the suspect said the hotel was full."

"The suspects then slashed the victim on the head and fired two shots."

Mr Jamaluddin said a bullet went through Mr Lee's right shoulder, while another hit his left rib.

"He was sent to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan and is reported to be stable after surgery," he said.

The suspects fled in the victim's Peugeot 308.

"We will investigate whether this case is linked to the shooting in Jalan Haji Ahmad recently," said Mr Jamaluddin.

Minor injury

In that case, also in Kuantan, a woman escaped with minor injury after her car was shot at.

On Aug 13, a man approached Ms Ruzelawati Basri's car and asked her to get out. But the 35-year-old sped away and the man fired at her car.

The shot shattered one of the car windows and fragments of glass cut Ms Ruzelawati near her right eye.
