PETALING JAYA - Police are investigating the killing of a cat by hanging at an apartment in Section 2, Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur.

Deputy Wangsa Maju OCPD Supt Muhammad Najib Hamzah confirmed that police are investigating the case after the cat's owner discovered his pet's body around 2.30pm on Monday (June 10) and lodged a police report.

"Efforts are being made to track down the suspect and investigations are being carried out under Section 428 of the Penal Code for mischief by killing or maiming animals," he said when contacted on Tuesday (June 11).

CCTV footage showed a man holding the cat before tying a rope around its neck and hanging it at the stairs of the apartment building.

The man's first attempt failed as the cat ran off. He then chased it and tied the rope around the cat, resulting in it choking to death.
