ALOR SETAR - A video of a Kedah politician and two other men allegedly assaulting a youth and his girlfriend in the middle of a busy road here has gone viral on social media.
The victim, who was identified as Alif Adam, recounted the incident with a posting of the 35-second video clip on his Facebook page under the name Adam Hoonigan.
He claimed that the incident occurred at 5.45pm on May 15 after he drove out from a mall in Lebuhraya Darulaman, saying that a black sports utility vehicle (SUV) pulled up next to his car and honked loudly at him.
He said the SUV driver, in his 20s, wound down the window and repeatedly shouted at him "Kenapa? Kenapa? Hang tidak kenal lagi aku siapa (Why? Don't you know who I am)," and challenged him to come out from the car.
Alif claimed that a passenger, in his 50s, then came out of the SUV, opened his door, yanked out his car keys and punched him in the mouth.
"I also managed to punch him when he pulled me out of my car. Two men, in their 20s, then came out of the SUV and the three of them beat me up.
"My girlfriend, who tried to stop the fight, was punched in her chest and arms," he claimed, adding that the SUV left the scene when passers-by came to break up the fight.
Alif, who has lodged a police report, identified one of the three men as a prominent politician in the state.
Kota Setar district police chief Asst Comm Mohd Rozi Jidin said police had recorded the statements of the alleged victim and two other individuals yesterday and would call up the politician to record his statement as well.
He said the case would be investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
