Cop on patrol shot in the neck

KOTA BARU - A police officer was shot in the neck while on patrol near an illegal jetty in Rantau Panjang near here.

Kpl Shahrul Suliman was shot when he and his partner approached two suspicious-looking characters at an illegal jetty on the Golok River at 12.30am Thursday.

The suspects ran into the bushes when the two policemen approached and one of them fired a shot from the woods.

Kpl Shahrul was rushed to Hospital Lati in Pasir Mas and later to Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II in Kota Baru, with the bullet lodged in the right side of his neck.

He is currently undergoing emergency treatment.

The two suspects are still at large.
