MUAR - A couple died in a three-vehicle pile-up as they were returning from a wedding ceremony here.
Retiree Tan Chai Soon, 55, and his wife How Siew Boon, 54, were in their Proton Persona when it collided with a Nissan Serena MPV and an express bus along Jalan Muar-Batu Pahat at about 9pm on Sunday.
Apparently, the Persona had gone into the opposite lane of the road at Parit Belukang near Sungai Balang before it crashed into the MPV.
The bus driver couldn't brake in time and crashed into the Nissan.
Tan's sister Lee Kien, 45, said she did not dare inform their mother of the tragedy.
"My mother is 80 years old and she has a weak heart.
"She's quite close to my brother," she said at the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital here yesterday.
Lee Kien said her brother, who was the eldest in the family, had been taking care of their mother for the past few years.
Muar OCPD Asst Comm Azman Ayob said that How was flung out the car due to the impact of the crash, while Chai Soon was trapped in the front seat.
"Both died due to serious head and body injurie. A passenger in the MPV sustained a broken left arm while the bus driver and two of his passengers received light injuries," he said.
