Cowherd, cattle killed after struck by lightning

PERAK, Malaysia - A 59-year-old cowherd and his cattle were killed after they were struck by lighting during a downpour at Tali Air 6, Chenderong Balai, Labu Kubong near here today.

Muhamad Ramli Rais and 20 of his cows died on the spot in the 4.30pm incident.

His friend Amir Din, 46, said prior to the incident, there was heavy rain at the area.

"We were drinking tea at a nearby stall when Muhamad Ramli said he had to leave to lead the cows back to their shed. Not long after he left, another friend told me that Muhamad Ramli had been struck by lighting," said Amir when met at the scene.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Goh Kok Liang, when contacted, confirmed the incident.

"Muhamad Ramli's remains had been sent to Hospital Teluk Intan mortuary," he said, adding that the case had been classified as sudden death.
