PETALING JAYA - A man about to embark on a cycling expedition with friends to Kuala Selangor was attacked at a bus stop in Sungai Way here, resulting in head injuries that required 11 stitches.
Fellow cyclist Yvonne Chan said she learned about the attack from a couple who sent the victim to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre here, after the 5am incident on Christmas Day.
Chan did not name her friend, but it is learnt the two of them and another cyclist from the Cycling Kuala Lumpur group had planned to meet at the bus stop, near the Sri Setia KTM station, before riding on to Kuala Selangor.
It is understood several parang-wielding men had attacked the 28-year-old victim and robbed him of an undisclosed sum of money.
Chan, the coordinator of the cycling group, said she had seen her friend's bicycle at the meeting point but the man was not there.
"I shouted his name but there was no answer," she said, adding that she also tried to call him. "A car then pulled up at the bus stop and the couple in it told us they had sent our friend to the hospital," said Chan.
Doctors told them their friend was attacked with parang and needed two bags of blood as he had lost a significant amount during the attack. The victim was discharged on Thursday.
