MALAYSIA'S trusty Fire and Rescue Department has had a unique case - instead of putting out a fire or getting rid of a wayward snake, the team had to rescue a drowning monkey from a drain.

Jaffariza Ismail jumped into the drain when he saw the monkey struggling in the metre-high drain. The primate suffered a broken leg after it was knocked by a car and fell into the drain while crossing Jalan Ling Kai Ching in Sibu, reported Berita Harian.

Six personnel were despatched to rescue the monkey, and it was given emergency treatment. Unfortunately, the monkey died on the way to the Sibu Forestry Department branch and was buried near the Merah River fire station.
