Elder statesman had private meetings with Dr M and Najib

KUALA LUMPUR - Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah says he has met with former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad recently but declined to divulge details.

"It was a private meeting, you have to ask Tun M," he told reporters at a Hari Raya celebration organised by Persatuan Anak Gua Musang here yesterday.

All he would say was that it was Dr Mahathir who had requested for the meeting.

Asked if he supported Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Ku Li said: "I support everybody who does things right for the people."

He declined to answer when asked if Najib was doing the right thing and said that he was a government backbencher and not in the Opposition.

He also said that he had met with Najib on two occasions before Hari Raya.

"He invited me to get my views and I have given him my advice," he said without elaborating.

On a separate issue, he said he was not interested in becoming the new Public Accounts Committee chairman.

"(They can) find someone else who is more qualified. I've left the Government for 30 years," he said.
