Fake news of alleged US$1b donation from Brunei Sultan to Malaysia govt goes viral

This handout photograph taken and released on May 14, 2018 by Malaysia's Department of Information shows from (L to R) Brunei Prince Abdul Mateen Bolkiah, newly installed Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and Mahathir's wife Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali posing for picture during a visit to the Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya.

PETALING JAYA - A social media post alleging that the Sultan of Brunei donated US$1bil (S$1.3 billion) to help boost the Malaysian economy is fake.

The news that Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah contributed US$1bil to the Malaysian government was false, according to the Mukhriz Mahathir FC Facebook page.

On Tuesday morning the Facebook account, which is not Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir's official page, had earlier posted a picture of the Sultan visiting to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Monday.

Mohon Maaf, cerita mengenai sumbangan USD 1bilion dari Sultan Brunei adalah tidak benar. Kesilapan dari pihak admin. Sekian Terima Kasih.
