PETALING JAYA - A poster that claims 5,000 bras will be given for free at a school in Permatang Pauh, Penang, has gone viral on social media.
The poster slogan read: “Jom pi periksa dada, terus dapat sarung dada” (Let’s go check your chest, you will get a cover for your chest).
The details on the poster claimed that the bras will be given for free during an event at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Permatang Tok Kandu on April 15.
The poster also showed a photo of a man wearing a Barisan Nasional shirt, naming him as "Dato Sri Hj Ustaz Amran bin Nordin", along with his alleged post as Permatang Pauh Barisan chairman.
The poster was fake, as the chairman of Barisan Permatang Pauh is Datuk Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said, who also holds the post of Permatang Pauh Umno chief.
The Facebook page of the Permatang Pauh Umno Youth explained on Wednesday (April 11) that the poster on free bras was fake.
It showed the original poster before it was edited, saying “5,000 free spectacles” with the same details along with the photo of Mohd Zaidi.
Mohd Zaidi told the The Star's Bahasa Malaysia portal mStar Online that the fake poster was an insult not only to Barisan in Permatang Pauh, but also to women voters in the area.
“This looks to be the desperate work of certain people who might feel threatened by the programmes we have organised all this while.
“The free spectacles programme has been widely talked about. Maybe it affected these people who are uneasy about out welfare programmes, and they are trying to embarrass us,” he said.
When asked whether it was an act of sabotage to Barisan’s candidate for Permatang Pauh for GE14, Mohd Zaidi said that the act was intended to compromise the image of Barisan.
“In today’s world, we demand mature politics. The parties who play politics such as this will not bring any good, instead, it will create anger among Permatang Pauh folk.
“Many will know that this is fake and was done to embarrass us,” he said.
Mohd Zaidi said that he did not know the individual who was featured on the fake poster.
However, he said that a man claiming to be the one featured on the poster called him on Wednesday night to apologise regarding the matter.
The man said that it might have been used as a joke among some parties.
“I don’t know who he is, he told me that his name and photo were used (for the poster), and he will lodge a police report on the matter.
“We will also file a police report at Seberang Perai Tengah district police headquarters. It's up to the police to investigate,” he added.
