Father, daughter die in pre-dawn blaze in KL

When the fire broke out, a 43-year-old Malaysian, along with other members of the family, ran out of the house. Then he realised that his four-year-old daughter was still inside and rushed back in.

Mr Tan Kien Mun, a Kuala Lumpur hardware shop owner, did not find the girl, and both died in the early morning fire on Monday.

Their bodies were found in different rooms of the single-storey terrace house in Taman Ehsan, Kepong. Nine other occupants of the house escaped.

Fire and Rescue Department Operations Commander Ahmad Kassim said firemen rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 4.57am.

"By the time the firemen arrived 10 minutes later, 90 per cent of the house was engulfed in flames, " he said.

Four cars were also destroyed, he said, adding that the fire was brought under control by 6am.
