Abandoned by their father, eight young siblings have no other choice but to fend for themselves while staying in an old hut in Pulau Besar, Melaka, Harian Metro reported.
The siblings, aged between six months and 16, were supposed to have been cared for by their 42-year-old father while their 36-year-old mother underwent drug rehabilitation.
However, social welfare department officials found that the father had run away when they came to check on the children, who were living in deplorable conditions.
With their parents gone, the eldest child is struggling to care for his siblings and could not even afford to buy milk.
Officials later helped them apply for a birth certificate for the infant as well as two other siblings, aged two and three.
