Father wants inquest into death of son in school toilet

KOTA BARU - The father of a 14-year-old boy who was found hanged in a school toilet in Kok Lanas last December believes his son was murdered and wants an inquest into the boy's death.

Wan Abdul Rahman Wan Yaakob, 68, said he had reason to believe his son Wan Ahmad Faris, a student at Sekolah Maahad Tahfiz Sains Nurul Aman, did not commit suicide.

"I hope the authorities will hold an inquiry. My son knows the do's and dont's in Islam and I will produce the necessary evidence that my son was murdered if the inquest is held," he said after lodging a report at the Pengkalan Chepa district police headquarters yesterday.

He was accompanied by his wife Rohani Hussain, 58, and their lawyer Alias Ibrahim.

Wan Ahmad Faris was found hanged in the school toilet on Dec 14. A post-mortem report classified the case as "sudden death".

However, Wan Abdul Rahman was adamant that his son was murdered.

"I cannot accept he committed suicide. I need to get the authorities to reopen the investigation because we need to set the record straight and, at the same time, uphold the family's dignity," said the father.

Wan Abdul Rahman said he was making a second police report after "nothing came out" from the first one he lodged last month.
