Female cop remanded over escape of suspect

A woman police officer with a rank of assistant superintendent was remanded for three days on Thursday to assist in an investigation into the escape of a cheating suspect.

The suspect escaped while under Malaysian police custody at the Penang Court complex in George Town, reported the New Straits Times.

K. Prabaharan, 45, who is allegedly involved in cheating at least five women, escaped while he was left alone in the officer's room at the court complex at 2pm on Thursday.

On Oct 31 last year, Prabaharan was charged with tricking a woman into giving him two gold necklaces and an ATM card by promising to marry her, The Star reported.

Penang police chief Abdul Rahim Hanafi said Prabaharan was supposed to have been sent back to the remand prison after his case was heard in Cameron Highlands.

But the female officer called for escort police and asked for him to be sent to her office.
