Floods in Kuantan worsen as rain continues to pour

KUANTAN, Malaysia - The state capital city is seeing an onset of a flood situation as torrential rain continues to pour.

According to the state police on Monday, several roads in Kuantan had been inundated making it inaccessible to light vehicles.

The roads are KM28 of Jalan Sungai Lembing, Batu 3 of Jalan Kuantan-Gambang, the junction in front of Wisma Belia below the Kuantan Bypass flyover, the road in front of the fire station at Jalan Bukit Ubi, the road in front of the Chemistry Department at Jalan Tok Sira and the Bukit Setongkol bypass heading towards the Giant hypermarket.

The police advised members of the public to be prepared to face any eventuality and follow the direction of the authorities if evacuation orders are given.

Meanwhile, 75 people had been evacuated in Rompin as floodwater continues to rise.

The National Security Council reported that 23 people had been evacuated to the Lintang public hall and Kampung Perpat surau, 11 to the Telok Gading hall, 25 to the Kampung Bukit Lepas surau, eight to the Simpang Sepayang public hall and another eight to SK Pianggu.
