IPOH - A single-storey bungalow here, used as a food catering centre, has been cooking up something else besides its usual menu - methamphetamine.
It was doubling up as a drug-processing laboratory.
Anti-narcotics officers who raided the house in Lim Garden on Sunday at about 10.30am seized the drugs in crystal and powdered form weighing 32.8kg and worth RM2.8 million (S$1.1 million).
Various drug-making paraphernalia were also seized.
Perak deputy police chief Deputy Comm A. Paramasivam said the sole proprietor of the catering business, a 42-year-old Malaysian, and a 34-year-old foreign national were arrested to facilitate investigations.
When the raid was conducted, no one was in the house.
However, a few hours later the first suspect was arrested in town followed by the second, who was arrested inside the house.
Police also seized a van, two motorcycles, jewellery and RM35,200 in cash, he said at the state police headquarters here yesterday.
DCP Paramasivam said initial investigations revealed that the house had been used to operate the illegal business for the last six months.
He said the suspects had no criminal record and their urine test was negative.
