Gang members shot dead

KAJANG - Two members of the notorious Gang 21 were killed during a shoot-out near a construction site in Ara Damansara on Tuesday night.

Selangor police chief Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said police received a tip-off that two men were acting suspiciously in a Proton Wira parked by a roadside in Jalan PJU1A/9 in Ara Damansara at 10.50pm.

When they were told to step out of their car, the duo sped off towards a construction site near- by.

"Despite warnings for them to surrender, they refused to stop.

"After finding themselves trapped at a dead end, one of them, believed to be the driver, fired several shots at the policemen," he said at the district police headquarters here yesterday.

The policemen returned fire and both suspects were killed during the shoot-out.

Policemen found two parangs, four pairs of gloves and four ski masks in the car.

A 7.65mm calibre semi-automatic pistol, believed to have been used by one of the suspects, during the shoot-out was recovered.

The driver was identified as Gogilan Kuppen, 22, and his accomplice, Prabu Kuppusamy, 26.

Both were from Taman Putra Damai in Petaling Jaya.

Shukri said the duo were believed to be serial robbers and had been active since 2004.

It was learnt that Prabu had five previous records for robbery, thefts and attempted murder.

He was placed under the Emergency Ordinance (Public Order and Crime Prevention) 1969 at the Simpang Renggam rehabilitation centre in 2008, while Gogilan had one previous record.
