Gruesome find in beauty salon

KUALA LUMPUR - A stench from a beauty salon at Amber Business Plaza in Jalan Jelawat 1, Cheras, here led to the discovery of a body yesterday.

Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohan Singh Tara Singh said the gruesome discovery was made by the beauty salon owner and the victim's husband at 7.45pm on yesterday.

Police believe the deceased, a 28-year-old woman, had been dead for four days.

"The victim was found in the bathtub with a stab wound in her abdomen. Her throat was slit," he said, adding that blood was splattered all over the bathroom.

It was learnt that the woman had been working at the salon for about six months and was staying there with her 27-year-old husband.

Mohan said police had arrested the husband to facilitate investigations into the death of his wife.

"The husband claimed that on Monday, he had left the salon to buy groceries at a nearby 24-hour convenience store.

"He claimed that when he returned after 20 minutes, the front grille door of the salon was locked.

"He said he called the salon owner and stayed at her place."

Mohan said the victim's husband and the salon owner went to the unit located on the second floor yesterday to take his belongings after failing to contact his wife.

"We believe the body could have been there for several days, based on its condition," he said, adding that police did not find any murder weapon at the scene.

Police arrested him following an interrogation, as he was giving them inconsistent and contradicting stories of what had happened. The body was sent to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre for a post-mortem.

The case is being investigated for murder.
