Indonesian charged with having al-Qaeda-linked material

KUALA LUMPUR - An oil and gas consultant from Indonesia has become the first foreigner to be charged in a magistrate's court here with having publications related to the al-Qaeda terrorist group.

Hani Yahya, 39, who is of Arab-Indonesian parentage, is accused of possessing publications related to the terrorist group.

The offence was allegedly committed at a condominium compound at Jalan Bukit Bintang here at about 9pm on Sept 24.

No plea was recorded and no bail was offered.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin applied for the next mention date to enable the case be transferred to the High Court.

Magistrate Zura Syazween Hamizan fixed Dec 11 for mention.
