JOHOR BARU - Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar was at the Arulmigu Thendayuthapani temple here to witness the Thaipusam celebrations.

His Majesty was greeted by thousands of Hindu devotees when he arrived at the main hall yesterday afternoon.

Temple chairman Dr C. Vatemalee said this was the first time in the temple's 102-year history that the Johor Sultan visited the Arulmigu Thendayuthapani.

"We are grateful that Sultan Ibrahim graced the event where thousands of Indians also came to attend the special prayers."

"This shows that His Majesty is loved by all Bangsa Johor, no matter the race or faith," he said.

Also present were Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian and State Consumerism, Human Resource and Unity Committee chairman Dr S. Ramakrishnan.

The temple gave a donation of RM5,000 for the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation during the event.

Dr Vatemalee also said that the temple will build a new multi-purpose hall to replace its existing one which had become rundown.
