Johor's Mentri Besar warns errant developers

JOHOR BAHRU: The state government will freeze projects by developers which fail to build low-cost houses and affordable housing units in their projects.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said stern actions should be taken against the errant developers who ignored the state government's aspiration to build more than 180,000 units of affordable and low-cost houses.

He said 113,000 units had been allocated but not a single unit had been built so far.

Khaled said developers must fulfil their responsibility to build low-cost and affordable houses within their housing projects to cater to the needs of the people and not just build luxury houses to rake in profits.

"Providing affordable and low-cost houses in every new housing project is stated in the existing housing policy set by the Johor government," he said after the ground-breaking to build affordable houses at Taman Molek here yesterday.
