Kajang by-election: Polling starts at 8am, official results expected at 9pm

KAJANG - After an intense two weeks of campaigning by Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat, 16 polling stations opened on Sunday as Kajang constituents got to cast their votes from 8am.

A total of 38,055 registered voters are expected to discharge their responsibility before voting ends at 5pm.

The Election Commission said it expected more than 80 per cent of the total voters to cast their ballots.

On Wednesday, 88.39 per cent or 1,050 of the 1,197 advanced voters had cast their votes.

The Kajang state seat fell vacant following the resignation of its PKR assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh on Jan 27.

Ms Chew Mei Fun of Barisan Nasional and Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) are involved in a straight fight for the Kajang state seat.

The official results are expected to be announced at 9pm on Sunday.
