KEMAMAN: The Kerteh Airport in Kemaman has been completely shutdown for all flights Thursday after visibility levels worsened.
Petronas' East Coast Region Communications and Media Relations manager Zamri Mohamad said however, the airport would be opened only for emergency flights.
"The airport was closed from early this morning when the visibility range at 7am was 600 metres, and we expect it to be closed until 7pm.
"The visibility range improved to 700 metres at noon today, but it is still not good and does not allow landings and take-offs," he told Bernama.
Zamri said Petronas was constantly monitoring the situation and abiding by the advice of the Department of Civil Aviation and the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
Since Monday, a total of 11 helicopter rides were affected daily, involving the shift changes of more than 300 crew members, and Malindo Air and FireFly flights have had to be diverted to airports in Kuantan and Kuala Terengganu.
