BUTTERWORTH - A middle-age man was found dead shortly after he fell into the sea here.

Firemen recovered the body of Ooi Khoon Seng, 56, at 2.40pm yesterday about one nautical mile from the shore where he was last seen.

The Fire and Rescue Department deployed 12 firemen for a search and rescue operation after receiving a report from the police that Ooi had fallen into the sea from the fishermen's jetty in Jalan Pantai Bersih and gone missing.

Department spokesman Azman Hussin said Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency personnel assisted in the search.

He said that Ooi's body had been sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital.

It is learnt that passers-by had seen Ooi, from Penanti, loitering in the area the past few days.
