Malaysia to conduct own probe into death camps

PETALING JAYA - Malaysian authorities will conduct their own investigation into the discovery of death camps for illegal immigrants in southern Thailand, near the Malaysian border, said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Home Minister vowed that the authorities would get to the bottom of the matter.

"Rest assured that we will investigate the matter thoroughly.

"We will work closely with Thai police and its authorities on the mass graveyard of immigrants discovered in southern Thailand," he said yesterday.

Although the graves were not on Malaysian soil, Dr Ahmad Zahid said the matter should be taken seriously due to the proximity of the two countries.
