Malaysia DPM warns of action against Sabah separationist group

BEAUFORT - Suggesting Sabah to secede from Malaysia is tantamout to treason, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin warns.

The Deputy Prime Minister also warned those who instigate for Sabah's separation from the federation are liable to face stern action.

"I have heard also of individuals going to the United Nations, questioning Sabah's position. We will not tolerate this," he said when opening the Beaufort Umno division meeting yesterday.

"Sabah is Malaysia. Any effort to separate this state from the nation is not only unconstitutional but treacherous. We will take action against the instigators," added Muhyiddin, who is Umno deputy president.

He said politically frustrated people were among those involved in such separatist talk.

Muhyiddin said Umno members should take pride in knowing the country's progress this far was partly due to the party's struggles.

"We must defend our independence and sovereignty. Let no one colonise us or cause disunity among us," he said.

Muhyiddin also alerted Sabahans against irresponsible groups calling for separation.

"These people are playing a dangerous game that could lead to serious implications," he said, adding that such instigation would also affect close ties between the state and the central government.

Muhyiddin stressed the importance of Sabah in the rapid development of the country.
