Malaysian lecturer nabbed over $4.7 million false claims

ALOR SETAR - A lecturer from a public university was arrested by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers for alleged misappropriation of claims amounting to RM14mil (S$4.7 million).

It is learnt that the 46-year-old woman, who is an Associate Professor, was detained at about 11.00am on Wednesday when she came to the state MACC office at Bangunan Persekutuan near here to give a statement.

The lecturer was remanded for six days after she was brought to the Sessions Court on Thursday.

State MACC director Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohamad confirmed the arrest.

He said investigations were still continuing. The case is being probed for submitting false claims under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act 2009.
