PETALING JAYA - A 22-year-old man went to meet a woman he met at WeChat for sex but ended up being bashed up by extortionists.
On Sunday, the victim made an agreement to meet up with the 20-year old woman at an apartment along Jalan Seri Taming.
The woman initially greeted him inside, and asked him to take a shower.
But soon after that, around five to six men rushed into the room holding weapons.
"The men as well as the 20-year old woman accused the victim of rape. The group then tried to extort about RM40,000 from him as well as striping him off his clothes," said Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussoff.
"The suspects recorded the naked victim and threatened to spread the video if the money was not paid. His belongings were also stolen, with losses estimated at about RM8,000," he said.
The victim also sustained injuries after being beaten up by the extortionists.
ACP Ahmad Dzaffir said a friend of the victim went to the police after receiving a video and picture of the victim when he was contacted by the suspects in their bid to get the money.
He added that the friend told the police that the victim was eventually released and had returned home. No ransom was paid.
"Kajang police arrested five suspects, four men and one woman, in the Bandar Kinrara area early Monday. Two of the suspects tested positive for drugs and none had previous records," said ACP Ahmad Dzaffir.
The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for causing hurt while committing a robbery.
