SHAH ALAM - A man was beaten to death for blackmailing his best friend's wife over nude photos.

Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat said it happened at the couple's house in Sungai Buloh on Friday.

"The victim, in his 20s, had been friends with the suspect since their school days and frequently visits the couple's house.

"During one visit, the victim had secretly taken photos of the wife bathing," he said during a press conference at Selangor police headquarters yesterday.

He said the victim then allegedly went on to secretly blackmail the wife for money and sex.

"This went on for some time before the husband found out," he said.

"The husband got his wife to lure the man to the house and confronted him with two other friends."

SAC Fadzil said the victim's phone was smashed and he was beaten to death.

"All four, in their 20s, including the wife, have been arrested and remanded for a week to assist investigations," he said.

Meanwhile, police also arrested a gang of convenience store robbers.

SAC Fadzil said the six suspects had been terrorising 24-hour convenience stores in the Klang Valley since January with 27 cases connected to them.

The total losses from the robberies amounted to about RM68,000 (S$22,300).

"We managed to track them down to several locations in Selangor and arrested all six, aged 21 to 26, on Saturday," he said.

SAC Fadzil said the group was violent and dangerous, wielding machetes and even injured a person during one of the robberies.

"Thanks to information from the public, we managed to arrest them before they harmed anyone else.

"Two motorcycles and three machetes were among the items seized," he said.

All six tested positive for drugs and most of them had criminal records relating to robbery, car theft and drugs.
