KOTA KINABALU - Three people were injured when a man ran amok at an estate in Kinabatangan.
The 27-year-old suspect first punched a fellow motorcyclist in the ribs, causing the 42-year-old victim to fall off his bike. He then snatched a parang from the victim and fled.
He lingered around a nearby housing estate and slashed the first person he saw, a 36-year-old labourer, with the parang at about 6.30am on Tuesday.
The suspect later crashed his motorcycle into another motorcyclist, causing the man to fall.
The motorcyclist managed to escape before the suspect could harm him.
It was not until the suspect crashed into a tree that passers-by managed to overpower him.
Kinabatangan police chief Supt A. Sahak Rahmat said the man had been arrested and was being interrogated.
"We are trying to find out why he ran amok," he added.
The first and third victims sustained bruises while the second victim was treated for a 7cm slash wound on his back.
