Man slits son's throat and drinks his blood

MALAYSIA - A man in the eastern Malaysian town of Lahad Datu slit his son's throat before drinking the boy's blood.

Lahad Datu police chief Superintendent Shamsuddin Mat said seven-ear-old Haikal Salimar was sleeping in the living room at about 9.45pm on Thursday when the attack, which was witnessed by family members, took place, The Star reported.

Supt Shamsuddin said on Saturday that before the incident, the 35-year-old father had shouted about being implored by evil spirits to drink human blood.

He then ran into the kitchen, took a knife and killed his son in front of the boy's grandparents and an uncle.

"According to family members, the incident happened very quickly and the boy was killed before any of them had time to react," Supt Shamsuddin said.

With the help of villagers, the knife was taken away from the father who was then tied up, The Star reported.

The suspect is being remanded for seven days for murder. He may have been involved in the occult and superstitious practices, investigations showed.

Supt Shamsuddin said the man did not seem to be under the influence of any substance when arrested, adding that he would also be sent for a psychiatric examination.
