PETALING JAYA - The man who was recently caught on video driving against traffic along the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) often got lost when venturing out of his home.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zani Che Din said the 76-year-old man was a retired contractor.

"His two sons brought him to the Petaling Jaya traffic division at about 8pm on Friday and we have since recorded his statement.

"We found that he has dementia and trouble with his hearing.

"He also often gets lost when venturing out of his home," he said, adding that the man was later released on police bail.

However, investigations into the incident on Thursday were still ongoing under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act, he added.

The viral video, which lasts over five minutes, shows the car heading in the direction of oncoming traffic near Taman Dato Harun.

Other motorists can be heard shouting at the driver during the rush hour incident between 4pm and 6pm, but he drives even faster.

After a while, several NPE patrol personnel order the man to stop, but he ignores their instructions.

The video ends with the car coming to a stop after the personnel shout and bang on the driver's window.
