Masked robbers in Malaysia escape with jewellery worth RM720,000 in heist

PETALING JAYA - A group of three masked robbers fled with RM720,000 (S$244,000) worth of jewellery in a heist at a goldsmith shop located at a hypermarket in Kota Damansara.

The trio stormed into the goldsmith outlet at 11.47am on Thursday (Feb 8) with one of them armed with a .38 revolver.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zani Che Din said the assailant, who was armed with the pistol, disarmed a security guard and snatched his pump gun.

"The other two suspects grabbed eight trays of jewellery worth RM720,000 before all three of them fled the scene.

"They tossed the pump gun at the hypermarket's parking lot before escaping in a white Perodua Myvi bearing the registration number VA 8247," he said when contacted.

He added that the car registration number used by the suspects was fake.

"We are in the midst of tracking down the assailants," he said.
