MD in RM234,420 cheating case to know fate on Aug 20

KUALA LUMPUR - Syarikat Ascendex Sdn Bhd managing director Leong King Ho, who faces a cheating charge involving RM234,420 (SGD92,000), is set to know his fate soon.

A Sessions Court here fixed Aug 20 for a decision on the case, in which Leong had claimed trial to cheating former Sime Darby project manager Hisham Haron by inducing Hisham into believing that Syarikat Xcendex Sdn Bhd was an associate company of Syarikat Ascendex.

Counsels K. Ganesan and V. Stanislaus, who acted for Leong, tendered their submission to the court via email yesterday.

DPP Amira Sariaty Zainal is expected to tender a submission on Aug 11 before the verdict by judge Mat Ghani Abdullah.

Leong was accused of inducing Hisham to make the payment which was supposed to be received by Syarikat Ascendex to Syarikat Xcendex via two cheques totalling RM80,920 and RM153,500 each.

The alleged offence took place at No 108A, Jalan Burhanuddin Helmi in Taman Tun Dr Ismail here on March 6,2009 at about 9am.

Leong, 48, was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which is punishable by a jail term of up to 10 years, a whipping and a fine.
