MH370: Stay calm and rational, Chinese citizens urged

KUALA LUMPUR - Calm and rationale must prevail amidst the search for the MH370 plane, says MCA vice-president Datuk Chua Tee Yong.

The calls by Chinese nationals to boycott Malaysian products and to stop visiting the country, said Chua, were irrational and emotional responses.

"It would also hurt the good relationship of the two countries established 40 years ago," he said.

"I would like to remind the world that there were Malaysians on board the MH370 as well as other nationalities, and no one wanted this to happen," he said in a statement here yesterday. "We are all victims of the tragedy."

He also called on the foreign media to report professionally and accurately.

"Conspiracy theories and armchair critics are not needed because they will only further confuse and mislead the people," he said.

Chua condemned media agencies like Fox News and CNN for coming out with irresponsible, wild allegations and sensationalising the coverage of the incident, some of which incriminated the Malaysian Government.

The Opposition, he said, should also help the country weather the crisis.
