KOTA KINABALU- Repairs were carried out on a dilapidated wooden bridge in Kampung Bahagia 72 hours after a minister and several government officials fell into the sea after it gave way while they were visiting the water village.

It was understood that the VIP and the officials were visiting the people at the water village in Sandakan when the plank gangway collapsed on Saturday afternoon.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Batu Sapi MP Datuk V.K. Liew's office in a statement yesterday said immediate steps were taken to repair the wooden bridge used by the villagers.

Incidents of gangways collapsing at water villages are common and often make headlines when VIPs become victims of such collapses.
