M'sia postpones release of controversial film

MALAYSIA - Malaysia's Home Ministry has ordered the scheduled Aug 22 release of the film The New Village to be postponed, pending a review by the Malaysian Film Censorship Board.

Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the decision was made amid concerns raised on social media that the film idolises the Malayan Communist Party (MCP).

"Several posts on social media question the film for promoting the MCP's leftist struggle. We do not want sensitive issues to be raised, especially when the film is scheduled for release ahead of the country's national day," the Malay-language daily Utusan Malaysia quoted the minister as saying.
