KUALA LUMPUR - The Prime Minister's son-in-law Daniyar Kesikbayev has challenged DAP's Raub MP Mohd Ariff Sabri to prove his claim that a "deal was inked" by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak over a government office in New York in September.
Kesikbayev, who is also known as Daniyar Nazarbayev, also lodged a police report against Mohd Ariff over a post on his blog Sakmongkol AK47, titled "Faulty Reward System and Changeable Governments" which was published on Tuesday.
Kesikbayev, who is married to Najib's daughter Nooryana Najwa, was represented by his lawyer Noorhajran Mohd Noor at the Dang Wangi police headquarters on Friday.
"My client has challenged Mohd Ariff Sabri to present evidence of his claims that the deal was inked by the Prime Minister. He is also urged to explain where he got this information.
"Not only has Mohd Ariff Sabri defamed my client, he also defamed the Prime Minister in his blog post," she said to reporters.
Mohd Ariff's blog post appeared as an article on portal Malaysia Chronicle on the same day with the title "Son-in-law Daniyar to be Najib's new 'Jho Low': Disquiet over contract to renovate Govt's office in New York".
The article claimed that the building housing Malaysia's permanent representative to the United Nations located in New York would undergo massive renovation works very soon, in a multi-million dollar project.
In his post, Mohd Ariff alleged that project was to be given to Kesikbayev and that "the deal was inked" while Najib was in New York last September.
Mohd Ariff also claimed that the "Malaysian developer style of business deal" was applied whereby "the developer gets 80 per cent, the owner gets 20 per cent".
Kesikbayev demanded that the article be taken down immediately and that an apology be accorded to him within 48 hours.
Speaking to reporters at Dang Wangi, Noorhajran said that the blog post had tainted Kesikbayev's reputation.
"I received instructions to issue a statement that my client as a foreign citizen regrets the action and slander made against him.
"It is his opinion that this behaviour is unhealthy for the future of the country whereby irresponsible individuals can easily defame anyone. He requests that these lies and slander be stopped immediately," she related.
