KOH LIPE - The lack of scheduled direct flights from other countries to Langkawi should be addressed in a bid to transform the resort island into a renowned tourist destination.
At present, the only available direct international flight to Langkawi is from Singapore.
Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) chief executive officer Tan Sri Khalid Ramli said that Lada had met with various quarters, including Malaysia Airlines (MAS), Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) and the Government in order to discuss the importance of having scheduled direct international flights to Langkawi for tourists.
"Right now, we only have chartered flights.
"Many foreign tourists have been asking for direct flights (to Langkawi).
"When I was in Korea, tourists there said that they wanted to come to Langkawi but on a direct flight," he told reporters during the Lada-Media Recreational Tour Programme 2013 here yesterday.
