KUALA LUMPUR - The City police have a new crime buster. He is Senior Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng who is now the CID chief.
City police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh said he had high hopes for SAC Gan to bring down the crime rate here.
"Our contingent is small with only five districts - Cheras, Sentul, Dang Wangi, Brickfields and Putrajaya," he said at the handing over of duties ceremony at the City police headquarters yesterday.
"Putrajaya is relatively peaceful while the other four districts have high crime rates," SDCP Mohmad said.
"I know SAC Gan will do whatever it takes to bring these down."
SAC Gan took over from Asst Comm Khairi Ahrasa, who was the Acting CID chief for about one and a half months.
"We have a good team, and I am confident that we can do a good job," said SAC Gan.
SAC Gan, who is the 18th City CID chief, was previously the Northeast District OCPD in Penang.
He joined the force in 1976 and holds a Diploma in Policing Science from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
"This is a big responsibility for me but with the support of the whole team, I am sure we can achieve what we set out to."
