No Malaysians on board ill-fated EgyptAir Flight MS804

Passengers disembark an Egypt Air Airbus A-320 sitting on the tarmac of Larnaca aiport after it was hijacked and diverted to Cyprus on March 29, 2016.

PETALING JAYA - No Malaysians were on board the ill-fated EgyptAir Flight MS804 that crashed en route from Cairo to Paris, said the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

It confirmed this based on information released by the airlines' officials.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its hope for the safety of the passengers and crew of EgyptAir MS804," it said in a statement on Thursday.

A Greece aviation source told AFP that the plane carrying 66 people on board crashed into the sea off the southern Greek island of Karpathos while in Egyptian airspace.

The Airbus A320 aircraft disappeared from radar over the Mediterranean Sea, EgyptAir said earlier.

Egypt's state newspaper Ahram reported that there had been no distress call from the plane and that the last contact with the pilot was about 10 minutes before the aircraft disappeared.
