PM thanks Sarawak for political support

BINTULU, Malaysia - Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Sarawak's political support allowed him to carry out his duties as Prime Minister with confidence.

"Thank you, I want to say, for the strong support from Sarawak Barisan to me as announced by your Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem recently," Najib said on the first day of his two-day visit to Sarawak.

"I am thankful for all the support. It allows me to carry out duties as the leader of the Government with full confidence that there is support from all corners of the country."

In his speech, Najib also singled out PRS president Tan Sri James Masing for his support against criticism from former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

On March 17, Masing in a statement called on the former premier to let Najib do his job without interference.

Najib, who was speaking at Rumah Panjang Henry Nuni, about 60km from Bintulu, yesterday, said his Government would help Sarawak develop faster.

"I promise that with this support, we will give more help and more development projects to Sarawak," the Prime Minister told a crowd of hundreds, including federal and state ministers.

Earlier, Sarawak Barisan secretary general Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi in pledging support for Najib, said this area has been a stronghold for Barisan and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) in every election.

"We will continue to support Barisan and your leadership. We will fight with you whenever there are enemies who try to attack from different corners. We will be with you through thick and thin," he said.

It was Najib's second trip to Sarawak within a month.
