Police: Ex-RMAF man gunned down was Geng 36 head

IPOH - The former air force personnel who was shot dead at Taman Rishah here was the head of Geng 36 in Batu Gajah, say the police.

Perak CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Mohd Dzuraidi Ibrahim said S. Jambu Keshan might have been gunned down by rival gang members over drug-related matters.

"We also believe the shooting is related to a turf war between the victim's gang, Geng 04 and Geng 08," he told journalists here yesterday. "The victim also does not have previous records or convictions."

Jambu Keshan was shot dead by a masked assailant near his father's restaurant in Taman Rishah at about 7.15am on Sunday.

The 39-year-old was pronounced dead at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital after being rushed there by family members.

SAC Mohd Dzuraidi said police took down statements from two witnesses and believed that there were more than two suspects involved in the shooting.

"We are still trying to identify the suspects involved."

SAC Mohd Dzuraidi said police would continue with its Ops Cantas to locate and nab more suspects related to gangsterism and drugs.

He assured that the situation was under control. "And, it will remain as such."

At the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital mortuary earlier, a group, comprising family members and friends, gathered at the mortuary to claim Jambu Keshan's body.

Jambu Keshan's father Sathasivam said he was shocked that his son was gunned down.

"Every morning, he would go to the market in Buntong to buy groceries for the restaurant," he said.

"He would also help the neighbours settle their problems whenever they needed assistance."
