Police: Man detained for trespassing into Johor palace grounds

JOHOR BARU - An unemployed man was detained around midnight Thursday for trespassing into Istana Pelangi grounds here, the residence of Johor's Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd (pic) said the 27-year-old managed to gain entry through a service entrance meant for palace staff, but was detained by Johor Military Force personnel on guard before he got further than 50m of the gate.

"The suspect told the police that he wanted to see Sultan Ibrahim when questioned, " CP Wan Ahmad said in a press conference at the Johor police contingent here on Friday.

He said the suspect had been remanded for four days to assist investigations and the police would forward the case to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action.

CP Wan Ahmad said between 2004 and 2015, there were five cases involving intruders trespassing the into the Johor Sultan's palace.
