KUALA LUMPUR - All racist acts that will hurt the feelings of the Chinese must be stopped immediately, says MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
He said the party would convey this to Barisan Nasional chairman and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Singling out Umno's Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, who had threatened to slap the Chinese for purportedly bringing their complaints abroad, Liow said: "Tajuddin has repeatedly provoked and hurt the feelings of the Chinese and challenged MCA which stands up for the community."
Tajuddin was reported by a Chinese daily yesterday as saying that the MCA could complain till the end of the world, in response to calls by MCA leaders for him to apologise to the Chinese for the threat to slap them.
Tajuddin had last week told the Chinese not to dream of having a "godfather" and protector, a direct reference to China.
"The MCA central committee has discussed the Tajuddin case and is upset over it.
"The party will lodge an official complaint with the Barisan chairman and Prime Minister and state its stand," Liow said after chairing a central committee meeting at Wisma MCA here yesterday.
Liow said Tajuddin must be held responsible for his statement and his voice recording on the threat was evidence that he had caused damage to harmony in this multi-racial country.
"Barisan must act to stop such acts," Liow said.
"Racial harmony, peace and stability have always been, and will continue to be, the criteria for Barisan's success in governing our country."
