Semporna kidnap: 3 women, 1 man picked up by police

KOTA KINABALU - Four people were picked up in Semporna following the kidnapping of two women from Singamata Adventures and Reef Resort on Wednesday night.

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said police detained three women and a man.

"They have no documents and we believe they can throw some light to what has happened," he told New Straits Times when contacted.

He however refused to comment whether the four individuals were related to one of the victims, Marcy Dayawan who is a resort staff.

Hamza added Marcy, who has been working with the parent company of the resort for quite some time, has no working permit.

On Wednesday at 10.30pm, seven gunmen gained access to the resort and took Marcy and Chinese tourist Gao Hua Yuan before fleeing in a boat.

Police said the suspects were no longer in Sabah waters and had crossed over to the Philippines waters.
